Six shadesmatched to you

Your healed colour is your own lip colour plus the pigment — so the shade is matched against your lip in daylight, never picked off a card. Bring the lipstick you reach for most.

Natural Pink lip blush shadeNatural PinkThe softest of the six. Barely a colour, more a return of the tone lips lose with age.
Rosy Nude lip blush shadeRosy NudeA warm mid-pink. The most-asked-for shade, and the safest first choice.
Peachy Blush lip blush shadePeachy BlushWarm and coral-leaning. Suits golden and olive skin tones particularly well.
Mauve Pink lip blush shadeMauve PinkCooler and slightly dusky. Flattering on fair skin with pink undertones.
Warm Rose lip blush shadeWarm RoseDeeper and rosier, closest to a worn-in everyday lipstick.
Berry Tint lip blush shadeBerry TintThe strongest of the six. Best chosen at a perfecting session rather than first time.
Semi-permanent make-up enhances you — it's not a make-up replacement.

In the studio

One artist, start to finish

The person who talks it through with you is the person who maps the shape, mixes the colour and does the work — and the same person you see again at the perfecting session four to six weeks later. Nobody is handed on to anybody else.

Needles are single-use and opened in front of you, and Alison is licensed by Burnley Borough Council for semi-permanent skin colouring and insured through Professional Beauty Direct.

The person doing it

Alison

Semi-permanent make-up is what her clients travel furthest for, so it now has its own name and its own unhurried diary — the same person, in the same room, at the salon she has run on Briercliffe Road since 2009.

Licensed by Burnley Borough Council and insured through Professional Beauty Direct. And if a treatment is not right for you, she will say so at your free consultation — which is rather the point of having one.

How it worksstep by step

Nothing is permanent until you have looked in the mirror and said yes.

  1. A free consultation, first

Alison talks through shape, colour, your skin and your health, and whether the treatment is right for you at all. It costs nothing, commits you to nothing, and your patch test is done at the same visit.

  2. Mapping, before any pigment

Measured, drawn on with pencil, adjusted, handed to you in a mirror, adjusted again. People change their minds at this stage constantly — that is exactly what it is for.

  3. Your appointment

Two to three hours, numbed and lying down, with a drink and a blanket if you would like one. Most people find it far gentler than they expected — a fair few drift off.

  4. A week of healing, and you will know what to expect

They look darker at first, then they flake, and in the second week the colour seems to fade right back. All of it is completely normal, all of it passes, and you will have it in writing so nothing takes you by surprise.

  5. Your perfecting session, included

At four to six weeks the shape gets its final adjustment and anything that healed light is topped up. It is part of the treatment, not an upsell, and it is already in the price.

Questions

What is semi-permanent make-up?

Cosmetic pigment placed into the upper layer of the skin with a fine needle, to shape and colour brows or lips. It is not a tattoo: the pigment is designed to break down and fade over twelve to eighteen months so the shape can be adjusted as fashions and faces change.

How long does an appointment take?

Two and a half to three hours for brows, two and a half for lips. Around 45 minutes of that is spent on shape and colour before any pigment goes in.

Do I need a patch test?

Yes, at least 48 hours beforehand, every time unless you have had one here within the last twelve months. It is free and it takes five minutes.

Is the consultation really free?

Yes. Consultation and patch test cost nothing and carry no obligation to book. It is also the appointment where you might be told the treatment is not right for you, which is worth having for free.

How much does it cost?

Powder and ombré brows are £295, combination brows £325, and lip blush £195. Brows and lips together are £450. Every one of those includes your consultation, your patch test and the perfecting session at four to six weeks.

Will it look obvious?

Not if the colour is matched to you and the shape is mapped to your face. The single biggest cause of obvious-looking work is pigment chosen too dark. The advice here will always be to start softer than you think you want, because depth is easy to add at the perfecting session and hard to remove afterwards.

Can I have it done before a wedding or holiday?

Yes, with time to spare. Allow at least six weeks before the event so healing is finished and the perfecting session is done. Two weeks before is too close.

What if I do not like it?

Say so at the perfecting session, which is what it is there for — shape, depth and symmetry can all be adjusted then. The stage that prevents this problem is the mapping at the start: nothing is applied until you have looked in the mirror and said yes.

Do you take a deposit?

Yes, and it comes off the price of your treatment rather than sitting on top of it.

Where are you?

Inside Escape Hair & Beauty at 152 Briercliffe Road, Burnley BB10 2NZ, by the hospital roundabout, with parking on the street outside.
